In Murska Sobota (Slovenia), on 21 and 22 January 2026, the third meeting of project partners within the URBANFLOODS project was held, organized by the Development Centre Murska Sobota (DCMS), one of the project partners.

The URBANFLOODS project brings together partners from eight countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region with the aim of improving systems for flood prevention, risk management, and protection against floods in urban areas.

On the first day of the meeting, the focus was on the exchange of information regarding project progress, management and financial issues, as well as a review of work packages currently under implementation. Special attention was devoted to the development of the Decision Support System (DSS), with an emphasis on flood modelling at pilot locations. In addition, partners individually presented reports on the status of data collection, identified challenges, and results achieved so far, which form the basis for developing reliable tools for flood risk management in cities.

In the afternoon, discussions focused on activities related to the promotion and dissemination of results, project sustainability, as well as the development of the URBANFLOODS collaboration platform and the strengthening of cooperation within the ADRION network.

On the following day, a meeting of the Project Steering Committee was held, after which progress in the development of the GIS database and the enhancement of the URBANFLOODS knowledge base platform was presented. The importance of data standardization was particularly emphasized, as it is essential for developing joint solutions applicable in different contexts. Furthermore, the next steps in the development of the DSS system were presented. This system will play a key role in improving planning and decision-making in the field of urban flood protection.

At the end of the meeting, the next steps, deadlines for the delivery of project results, and the schedule of future meetings and activities were defined. The meeting concluded with a study visit, during which participants had the opportunity to become familiar with local examples of good practice.
