As part of the Danube GeoHeCo project, the first Deployment Desk meeting was held in Croatia, bringing together relevant national, regional and local stakeholders in the field of shallow geothermal energy.
The meeting was held on 3 December 2024 at the Međimurje Technology and Innovation Centre in Čakovec, and was organised by the Međimurje Energy Agency d.o.o. and the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering.
The main objective of the meeting was to establish a Deployment Desk, a platform bringing together key stakeholders in Croatia, with the aim of promoting the use of shallow geothermal energy and developing solutions based on this energy.
For participants who could not attend in person, participation was possible via the ZOOM platform.
During the meeting, the participants were presented with an overview of the project and the concept of the “Deployment Desk”, which is closely linked to the engagement of external stakeholders in the implementation of the project.
This approach aims to provide systemic support to partners in promoting the application of geothermal heat pumps.
Through cooperation with partner organizations on joint investments, efforts will be made to build capacities and facilitate knowledge exchange, thereby increasing the expertise and number of professionals needed for the sustainable transformation of the energy sector, with an emphasis on the exploitation of geothermal energy.
In addition to the introductory presentations, the participants participated in two key discussions.
The first discussion focused on conducting a SWOT analysis of the environment for the development and application of shallow geothermal solutions in Croatia.
The second discussion related to the identification of existing support measures for shallow geothermal energy that are currently being implemented.
Participants also provided suggestions for potential measures that could positively impact the use of shallow geothermal energy in Croatia and beyond, based on their own experiences.
Thanks to the establishment of the project’s “Deployment Desk” in Croatia, members will jointly formulate proposals for the development of the use of shallow geothermal energy, taking into account the local context and priorities.
It is also intended to reach a consensus on key challenges, potentials and incentives, as well as to propose necessary amendments to the existing legislative framework in order to create a favorable environment for the wider application of shallow geothermal heat pumps.
In order to further strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, another “Deployment Desk” meeting is planned for 2025, during which participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences in the use of shallow geothermal energy.
