1st Transnational Conference of the PRIMES Project Held

Date of creation 20.02.2026.

The first transnational conference of the drought risk reduction project, hosted by the City of Gradiška (Bosnia and Herzegovina), was held from 10 to 12 February 2026 in Trebinje.

The conference brought together representatives of all project partners, institutional authorities, scientific experts, and representatives of the Programme Joint Secretariat, confirming the strategic importance of drought risk within the IPA ADRION Programme.

The event was opened by the host institution, which emphasized the urgency of coordinated action in response to increasingly frequent and intense drought episodes across the Adriatic-Ionian region. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation between local, regional, and national authorities in order to move from fragmented emergency measures toward structured prevention and preparedness policies.

The conference enabled high-level political discussions on the impacts of climate change, water scarcity trends, and governance gaps affecting the region. Speakers highlighted the importance of reliable hydrometeorological data, integrated planning, and multi-level governance mechanisms to support evidence-based decision-making and early warning systems.

During the event, partners presented the main results of territorial analyses carried out within the project, identifying structural vulnerabilities, regulatory challenges, and stakeholder engagement processes aimed at strengthening local drought resilience.

A key institutional outcome of the conference was the formal establishment of the Network of Drought-Resilient Communities in the Adriatic-Ionian Region, confirming partners’ commitment to long-term transnational cooperation and policy alignment beyond the project duration.

The programme also included a field visit to the Grančarevo dam, providing participants with direct insight into the local water management system and its importance within the broader context of regional drought risk management.
