Bačka is a geographical region located in the north-western part of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina – Republic of Serbia. The borders of the Bačka region are formed by the Tisza river in the east – from Banat, the Danube river in the south – from Srem, in the west with Baranja and Slavonia.
The relief of Bačka is mostly flat, with arable land. There are numerous swamps and forests along the Danube River. In the southeast of the region, at the confluence of the Danube and Tisza rivers, there is Titelski breg, a small hill with an altitude of 152 m.
Bačka is administratively divided into districts: Juznobački, Severnobački and Zapadnobački administrative districts. The larger towns of Backa are: Novi Sad, Subotica, Sombor, Backa Palanka, Vrbas, Bečej, Senta, Apatin and others.

The Juznoba administrative district includes twelve local governments/cities (the city of Novi Sad, Bač, Bačka Palanka, Bački Petrovac, Beočin, Bečej, Sremski Karlovci, Srbobran, Vrbas, Žabalj, Titel and Temerin). According to the 2011 census, 639,833 inhabitants live in the territory of the Južnobacka administrative district.
The Zapadnobac administrative district includes four local governments/cities (the city of Sombor, Apatin, Kula and Odžaci). According to the 2011 census, 193,467 inhabitants live in the area of Zapadnobacka administrative district.
Severnobački administrative district includes three local governments/cities (the city of Subotica, Mali Iđoš and Bačka Topola). Backa, just like Vojvodina, is a multicultural, multiconfessional and multinational region. According to the 2011 census, 192,337 inhabitants live in the territory of Severnobački administrative district.
Bačka, and especially its southern part, is very fertile, and is among the most fertile parts of Europe. The population is primarily engaged in agriculture – the production of all types of grain, and Bačka wheat and corn are especially well-known. Other grains are also cultivated in smaller quantities. Gardening is very developed, and fruit growing is also important. Animal husbandry was the main occupation of the population until the end of the 19th century. Most of the population is engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, and to a much lesser extent in crafts, trade and industry. Pig farming is also very important, and poultry farming, fishing, silk farming, and hunting are significantly represented. The mill industry is important, and the tow, silk and textile industry in general is also important. Pottery, cement, brick, brewing, leather, etc. are also important.
